If you’re serious about studying law in Telangana, this is the one page you need to bookmark right now. Whether you’re a fresh intermediate student eyeing the 5-year LLB, a graduate wanting to shift into law, or an LLB holder ready to level up with an LLM — TG LAWCET and TG PGLCET 2026 are your entry points. Let’s break everything down clearly, honestly, and completely.
What Exactly Are These Exams?
TG LAWCET 2026 (Telangana Law Common Entrance Test) is conducted by Osmania University, Hyderabad, on behalf of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE). It gives you admission into 3-year or 5-year LLB courses across law colleges affiliated with Telangana state universities for the academic year 2026–27.
TG PGLCET 2026 (Telangana PG Law Common Entrance Test) is for candidates who already hold an LLB degree and want to pursue a 2-year LLM. Both exams happen on the same day through a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format — meaning you sit at a computer in an exam centre and attempt the paper online, not on paper.
Exam Date & Schedule
Everything is on May 18, 2026 (Monday). Three different sessions run on the same day depending on which course you’re targeting.
| Exam | Date | Time |

Note that the 3-year LLB has two sessions — you’ll be assigned one of them. The 5-year LLB and LLM share the same afternoon slot.

Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria
TG LAWCET — 3-Year LLB
You need a graduate degree (10+2+3 pattern) from a recognized university. The minimum marks needed are shown below.
| Category | Minimum Marks in Graduation |
|---|---|
| General / OC / BC | 45% |
| OBC | 42% |
| SC / ST | 40% |
Rounding rule: 44.5% and above counts as 45% for General, 41.5% and above counts as 42% for OBC, and 39.5% and above counts as 40% for SC/ST. So if you scored 44.7%, you’re good to go.
Final year graduation students can appear in the exam but must have passed before counselling begins. Degrees obtained through single-sitting exams or directly from Open University without a basic qualifying degree are not eligible.
TG LAWCET — 5-Year LLB
You need to have passed your Intermediate (10+2) or any equivalent examination. The same percentage rules apply — 45% for General, 42% for OBC, 40% for SC/ST, with the same rounding benefit. Polytechnic diploma holders are also eligible. Intermediate final year students can apply in anticipation of results.
TG PGLCET — 2-Year LLM
You simply need to hold an LLB or BL degree (3-year or 5-year). If you’re in your final year of LLB, you can still appear — but again, you must have cleared the degree before counselling.
Age Limit
There is no age limit whatsoever for any of these courses. This is as per the Bar Council of India’s official guidelines, so whether you’re 21 or 45, you can apply without any restriction.
Application Fee
| Course | Category | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| TG LAWCET (3/5-Year LLB) | General / OBC | ₹900 |
| TG LAWCET (3/5-Year LLB) | SC / ST / PH | ₹600 |
| TG PGLCET (LLM) | General / OBC | ₹1,100 |
| TG PGLCET (LLM) | SC / ST / PH | ₹900 |
Exam Pattern — What Will the Paper Look Like?
TG LAWCET Exam Pattern
The total paper has 120 questions for 120 marks and must be completed in 90 minutes. Every question is worth 1 mark. There is no negative marking mentioned. All questions are objective/multiple-choice type.
| Section | Topics Covered | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part A | General Knowledge & Mental Ability | 30 | 30 |
| Part B | Current Affairs | 30 | 30 |
| Part C | Aptitude for the Study of Law | 60 | 60 |
| Total | 120 | 120 |
Part C is the most important section — it carries half the marks. Out of 60 questions in Part C, 10 will be based on comprehension of legal passages. For the 5-year LLB, questions are set at Intermediate level. For the 3-year LLB, the standard is Degree/Graduation level.
TG PGLCET Exam Pattern
Also 120 questions, 120 marks, 90 minutes. But the structure is very different since it’s a postgraduate-level test covering actual law subjects.
| Section | Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part A | Jurisprudence | 20 | 20 |
| Part A | Constitutional Law | 20 | 20 |
| Part B | International Law | 16 | 16 |
| Part B | Business & Corporate Laws | 16 | 16 |
| Part B | Labour Law | 16 | 16 |
| Part B | Crimes & Torts | 16 | 16 |
| Part B | Other Allied Laws | 16 | 16 |
| Total | 120 | 120 |
Syllabus in Detail
TG LAWCET Syllabus
Part A (General Knowledge & Mental Ability) and Part B (Current Affairs) don’t have a fixed syllabus — you need to keep up with general awareness, logical reasoning, and current events regularly.
Part C (Aptitude for Study of Law) tests your basic understanding of legal principles, Constitution of India, and your ability to read and interpret legal passages. Elementary knowledge of law is assumed — you don’t need to be a law expert, but knowing the basics of the Indian Constitution, legal rights, and fundamental principles helps a lot.
TG PGLCET Syllabus
Jurisprudence covers Schools of Jurisprudence, Sources of Law (Custom, Precedent, Legislation), Rights and Duties, Ownership and Possession, Persons, Obligation, Property, Liability, and Legal Sanctions.
Constitutional Law includes the Nature of the Constitution, Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles of State Policy, Executive, Judiciary and Legislature, Centre-State Relations, Emergency Provisions, and Constitutional Amendments.
International Law covers International Law vs Municipal Law, Subjects of International Law, State Territory, Law of Air and Outer Space, Law of Sea, Nationality, Extradition, Asylum, State Jurisdiction, the United Nations, Private International Law, and the ICJ.
Business & Corporate Laws includes General Principles of Contract (Sections 1–75 of the Indian Contract Act 1872), the Companies Act 2013, Intellectual Property Rights, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016, and Competition Laws.
Labour Law covers laws relating to Trade Unions, Factories, Social Security, Industrial Disputes, and the latest developments under the New Labour Codes.
Crimes & Torts includes the Indian Penal Code 1860 (General Principles & Exceptions), salient features of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, General Principles of Tort, Defences, Joint Liability, State Liability, and the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
Other Allied Laws covers Environmental Laws, Human Rights Laws, Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR), the Information Technology Act 2000, the Right to Information Act 2005, and Family Laws.
Qualifying Marks — How Much Do You Need to Pass?
| Exam | Qualifying Marks | For SC/ST |
|---|---|---|
| TG LAWCET | 35% → 42 out of 120 | No minimum required |
| TG PGLCET | 25% → 30 out of 120 | No minimum required |
Just qualifying doesn’t mean you get a seat. You still need to attend counselling, respond to the admission notification, and satisfy all eligibility conditions at that stage. Merit and reservations also apply.
How Ranking Works
For TG LAWCET, candidates are ranked based on total marks. If two candidates score the same, the tie is broken first by marks in Part C, then by marks in Part B, and if still tied, by age — the older candidate gets the higher rank.
For TG PGLCET, the tie is broken by marks in Part A first, and then by age.
One important point — the rank you get is valid only for the academic year 2026–27. You cannot use a 2026 rank for admission in 2027.
Exam Medium & Test Centres
TG LAWCET is available in English/Telugu or English/Urdu. TG PGLCET is in English only.
The exam is held across 17 online test centres in Telangana including Hyderabad (West, North, South-East, East), Warangal, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Khammam, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Siddipet, Mahabubnagar, Sangareddy, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Kodad, and Sathupally. The convener reserves the right to add or remove centres.
How to Apply
Go to the official website at lawcet.tgche.ac.in. The process has two steps — first pay the application fee, then fill in the application form. You can also check your payment status and application status on the same portal. A user guide for filling the form is also available on the site.

One Candidate, One Application
This is a rule that many people overlook. You are allowed to submit only one application. If you submit more than one, the convener has the right to reject all of them — or accept just one — and the fees paid for rejected applications will be forfeited. Don’t take that risk.
Final Thoughts
TG LAWCET and TG PGLCET 2026 are well-structured exams with clear rules and a transparent process. The biggest mistakes candidates make are missing the no-late-fee deadline, submitting incorrect information in the application, and not preparing enough for Part C of LAWCET or the law subjects in PGLCET.
Apply before April 1, 2026 to avoid any late fees. Download your hall ticket on May 12. Walk into the exam on May 18 prepared. That’s really all it takes to get started on your law career in Telangana.
